Anatomy Of A Relationship, In Four Parts

"Seduction"

Conversing over dinner
(your hand, confident
on my breast)
matters of factual exploration
(tongue warm, wet
against my ear)
compose sentences.
Polite dialogue over coffee
(hips find rhythm)
yields new perspectives
(fingers glide)
on lesbian politics.
We end on the sidewalk
(leaf fluttery caresses tease)
in a close hug
(a mysterious smile in the dark)
between newly found friends
(mutual desire,
frighteningly erotic)
who know there is more to come.

"Love"

Commitment, by halves
You give me a key
to your house,
perhaps your heart.
Taking them,
I run soft fingers
over the edges, and doubt.
Encouragement lurks
in the shadow of your embrace
Bold, I invite
"Come to dinner.
Meet the family."
You refuse,
a lightly sugared negative.
Distracting with
further discovery.

"Disintegration"

Geometry plays tricks
with emotions.
Rooms get bigger, colder
even though physics denies.
In the race we run
you sweat rejection
with every pore.
Deluding myself
I hand you
Dixie Cups of love
to quench your thirst.
You toss them aside, empty
instead of passing them back
to be recycled.

"Realignment"

You waltz and
I cha cha.
Rhythms changing imperceptibly
while we listen.
Too warm, desired, painful,
your friendly touches conflict
triggering memories
I can't deny
or purge.
Progress, we stumble
upon our true directions.
Trodding uneven paths
we pour cement walkways
in parallel
that never seem to set.
